Memory Project Reactions

Anthony - I like that it is the same style as mine, meaning the inner-thoughts of your mind. It was great though that it was trying to retrace your thoughts because you couldn't remember where you put your camera. I thought it was an interesting approach to a memory project, the lack of. The quality of your audio is good too, I could really imagine myself walking around campus and hearing everything that I heard. The relation of background sounds to your thoughts is very well spread. I enjoyed listening - it was easy to listen to.

Ryan - I absolutely love acoustic guitar so this peace was extremely lovely to listen to. This is the only project that I can think of that actually talked about the project like this as the content of the project itself. The voices and guitar switched in and out for which was most prominent. It switched nicely though, the guitar spoke for itself because as you wanted it to I believe - it triggered my own memories - and when it died down it brought me back to the voices and I keyed in on what you were saying. Quality of the audio was good. Nice job.

Kyle - I thought the fire alarm was in my room mate's room so thank you for scaring the crap out of me for the first 30 seconds. Aside from that I wasn't sure where you recorded some of your content from. The harmonica/drum jam-band stuff sounded great, if you played that yourself total kudos. The quality of the sound is great, so the listening is easy. I had a hard time figuring out what it had to do with memory, but I still believe it was an interesting piece to listen to.

Good use on differentiation of your voice as a narrator against the ambient background sounds. The footsteps and opening of doors pushes the story forward after each narration of an area; indoors to outdoors. A nonchalant memory retracing of your camera aside from the excited voices during the intro and when you, as the narrator, finally found it at the end.

Ryan
Quite layered with a recording of a song in the background along with your own guitar playing alternating in the increase of volumes; the guitar playing goes from slow to loud along with the other recording of the song. Some of the voices are muffled within the middle of the piece. The guitar playing ties the entire piece together. Good use on some reverberations of your voice such as when you counted, "one, two, three, four..." Memories and songs discussion.

Kyle
Multiple sound samplings from video games, songs, tv, and probably your own recording. Intermittent sounds from a harmonica and drum beat sound clips to quieter ambient background sounds of miscellaneous tv/movie dialogue. I think your piece is about trying to get a report done, through the keyboard typing sounds, but are hindered by various procrastinating obstacles like tv, movie, video games, and playing music, or maybe these are the sounds in your head when you are focused on your work (my take on it).

Kara
I thought there were two voices until I talked to you, good use of differentiation on voices. Eerie. The distorted sound effects of the supposed psychiatrist is disturbing. The unnatural "remembering back to the incident" part with the harsh breathing adds more to the anxious atmosphere. Sudden abrupt ending cuts off the fast paced anxious feel that I think maybe would have escalated further.

Class Post on Additional Projects

Anthony

I really felt that this was a relevant piece to the class as well as the TCNJ community.  As a student that looses almost everything, I felt the anxiety of the narrator who was frantically looking for his camera.  The sound as really clear and I enjoyed hearing the crunching of the ground, I really felt like I was outside, maybe a little more sounds could have been added for there to have been an even more apparent atmosphere.

Ryan-
This piece was really soothing.  I love music and I feel the same way when I am listening to music.  Memories definitely trigger when I am listening to anything and the feeling was evoked when listening to this piece.  It was a little difficult to hear the voices at some points, but the purpose was still put across.

Kyle-

I literally LOL when I was listening to this piece.  When I am typing a paper or doing any work for that matter I procrastinate SO much.  That involves watching TV or eating, whatever it takes to procrastinate. I really like the audio pieces chosen and I can definitely see myself being the narrator (even though there was no narrative voice, which was really refreshing in a sense I was the individual in the scenario). The first time I heard the piece, I was a little upset in the middle with the extended piece in the middle, but when I listened to it a second time I enjoyed it because I felt like I was really interested in a flick on TV and then realized "oh crap, I have work to do!"  Loved this piece.

Kara

I loved the audio.  It was clean and clear.  There was some clips that I could hear kind of pop at times, but I did not really mind it because it added to the chaos of the clip.  I was the psychologist listening to the patients "inner" thoughts of chaos.  The audio that I enjoyed the most was the scream because of its crisp quality and depth it added to the clip.  The voices uses at the end, although minimal, were chosen wisely.
